Welcoming 2021 and All the hype about Electric Vehicles
Forbes reports that the moment of the electric vehicle has arrived!
Just yesterday on January 20, 2021, President Joe Biden called for sweeping changes to bolster the US auto industry, ushering in EVs and transform transportation.
Multiple reports from multiple sources are indicating many new electric vehicles are to hit the market as of 2021:
Ford’s Mustang Mach-E, a Hummer pick-up truck and a SUV – now a nameplate under GMC, Tesla’s Cybertruck, Volvo Polestar 2 and XC40 Recharge, Volkswagen’s ID.4, BMW’s iNext, 2021 Audi e-tron GT, 2021 Mercedes-Benz EQC and even Apple is said to be working (long term – about 2028) on an electric car focused on design and self-driving.
What is all the hype about?
Besides the cleaner air and fuel savings, mainly, 3 reasons:
1)Better performance and long(er) range
Increased competition means continued technological improvements. As battery density continues to improve the outcome will be longer range from a smaller pack size. As battery production continues to grow, so will economies of scale and precision manufacturing. Range will continue to increase and charging stations will continue to proliferate, reducing traditional range anxiety.
2)Incentives, support, and legislation:
The new administration will bring in an era of sweeping changes and incentives for the acceleration of the EV industry. Governments are likely to increase tax credits for eletric models. Even competitors are getting together to lobby for a more favorable economic, social and political environment that will allow electric vehicles to account for 100% of sales in the United States by 2030, according to ZETA – Zero Emissions Transportation Association. Banks are offering credit lines specifically for electric vehicles A new 3-wheel proposal for a $2500 federal tax credit is under review by Congress.
3)Cheap(er)
Electric vehicles are becoming more accessible as they are now widely produced. Battery pricing continues to decrease meaning they become much cheaper to run. Not long from now, we will observe a wave of second-hand electric vehicles, at a much more reasonable price.
Electric Utility Vehicles
Harvard Business review has a strong opinion about Electric Utility Vehicles and Low Speed Vehicles: they represent the real future of EV’s.
Electric utility vehicles are a quiet, green alternative to those powered by internal combustion engine and are also experiencing a high.
Municipalities, Parking, Police Departments, Waste and Sanitation, Education, Parks and Recreation, Stadiums and Venues are a few examples of industries that take advantage of electric vehicles to reduce long term costs, save on fuel, reduce emissions, and improve profits. They are being utilized for hauling capabilities, maneuverability, and a reduced footprint. Contributing to lowering traffic congestion.
