Whether in a business setting or for leisure, it is undeniable that LSVs are quickly becoming very popular. We gathered the most common questions and answered them for you.

A: Age, location, speed and operation purpose vary by state.

First, it is essential to note that an LSV can be a Golf Cart, but not every Golf Cart can be an LSV due to safety equipment requirements. Westward Industries‘ MAX-EV is an LSV approved for public roads and streets in most USA states and in Canada the Provinces of British Columbia, Quebec, and Ontario

A: The speed limitations on LSVs are often put in place by manufacturers so the vehicles can qualify for the low-speed vehicle motor vehicle classification. The LSV class was originally designed for the neighborhood electric vehicle (NEV) market. When talking about other full scale electric vehicles, manufacturers typically limit the top speed to preserve battery charge. This is because aerodynamic drag increases significantly as speed rises, and hence battery power is consumed more rapidly when a high cruising speed is maintained, according to torque.com.sg.

A: Motor rotations per minute (RPM) can be measured and controlled by software. Knowing the gear ratio from the motor to the wheels allows an engineer to convert the RPM to vehicle speed and therefore control it.

In the United States, low-speed vehicles (LSV) have a maximum speed of about 25 mph and in Canada(40 km/h), they are typically allowed on roads with a maximum speed of 35mph and 50km/h. Download MAX-EV’s brochure for a full specs list.

A. When considering an electric vehicle, it is imperative to consider future fuel and maintenance savings over the vehicle’s life. It is still true that electric vehicles do still carry a higher initial price tag as Lithium-Ion batteries are quite costly. However, when factoring in that most battery packs are rated for around 2000 charges at a 20% depth of discharge and that you can typically charge for $1-$3 per pack (depending on pack size), the fuel savings can accumulate quickly. Furthermore, an EV drivetrain has fewer moving parts than its gas counterpart, significantly reducing maintenance. A. Westward currently uses Lithium-Ion NMC batteries, as they are more compact than LFP.  Expect to see up to 2000 charge cycles at an 80% depth of discharge.

Electric utility vehicles, Low-Speed vehicles, and neighborhood electric vehicles are all terms for vehicles that typically service a smaller focused area such as a downtown urban core, a university campus, an airport, an amusement park, a beach community, and much more. Compact, efficient, economical, and easy to use in congested areas, small businesses can benefit by reducing costs in insuring and maintaining smaller vehicles. The MAX-EV line is a new breed of LSV (low-speed vehicle). It is built robustly with a 2.5-inch steel tubular chassis, long-lasting Lithium-Ion battery, automotive-style components, and creature comforts such as optional air conditioning, power steering, or blue tooth radio. A. Westward believes in a best-in-class LSV built in North America with domestic head office and local distributor support. Westward uses automotive grade components for braking, suspension, electrical and more. The MAX-EV is built to last, built from the ground up and not as an upgraded golf cart.

A. Several well-known domestic OEMs in the market include the Polaris Gem line, the Club Car street-legal models, Columbia vehicles, and Taylor Dunn. Not built domestically but also available in the Current, Ayro, Tropos, and Vantage line.

A. Through any OEM distributors. Westward has dozens of dealers across North America. Please contact us with any questions regarding purchasing.

A.Our vehicles can charge on Level 1 or Level 2 charging, meaning a wall plug 110v or a 220v charging station/plug. Our vehicles have an onboard charger that reduces and mitigates incoming current. For 110v, a dedicated 15- or 20-amp circuit is recommended. In addition, we sell a 2-in-1 charging cable that allows the consumer to use 110v or 220v on a Nema 6-20 outlet.

A. This varies on which pack size you choose and which charging voltage. For Westward vehicles, the 6 and 8-kilowatt packs are good to charge on 110volts and you can expect an 80% charge in approximately 4-5 hours. Our larger 15 and 20-kilowatt packs maybe 8-12 hours on Level 1 or 5-8 hours on Level 2.

A. The MAX-EV is built as an on-road low-speed vehicle. However, since components are quite robust the vehicle would easily handle light off-road landscape, additionally, you can option up for a more aggressive winter radial. Wider turf tires are now available, and a full 4×4 electric platform will be coming in the next 6-9 months.

A. Westward has been in business for 30 years manufacturing robust, long-lasting vehicles, with strong factory assistance and an exceptional dealer network for local support. Westward can also offer remote diagnostic support through the customer’s Wi-fi (if access is granted)

A. The GO-4 is Westward’s first claim to fame, offering a nimble, tough, gas or electric vehicle for Parking Enforcement departments. With one wheel upfront, the GO-4 offers a superior turning radius compared to any other vehicle. Outfitted with a single-seat center drive, the GO-4 offers quick access to either side of the lane. In the United States, the vehicle is typically limited to 40mph.

The MAX-EV is a twin passenger green fleet workhorse LSV. Limited to 25mph on-road. Superior payload capacity, and many add-ons available for various work tasks.
The MAX-EV 3-wheeler is a twin passenger design with one wheel in the back offering excellent handling with reduced payload. This vehicle is more designed for last-mile delivery of food or parcel, urban transport, and parking enforcement. Limited to 40-45mph with a 300lb payload and van body.

Regenerative braking is a feature that increases the efficiency of electric vehicles. The process works by converting the kinetic energy from the vehicle’s motion into electrical energy, which can then be used to recharge its battery. Here’s how regenerative braking increases vehicle efficiency:

  1. Energy Recovery: When a driver brakes their electric vehicle, the regenerative braking system captures the kinetic energy that is normally lost in traditional vehicles. By converting it into electrical energy, the vehicle can recover up to 10-20% of energy that would have otherwise been lost.

  2. Battery Charge: This recovered energy charges the vehicle’s battery, which can lead to increased driving range. When a vehicle’s battery is charged, it requires less energy to maintain speed. This means that the battery lasts longer on a single charge, which can increase the overall efficiency of the vehicle.

  3. Reduced Wear and Tear: The regenerative braking system also protects the traditional brakes of the vehicle, which reduces wear and tear. The system uses friction from the motor, which slows down the vehicle before the brakes are engaged. This means that traditional brakes are used less frequently, leading to longer brake pad and rotor lifespan.

In summary, regenerative braking is an important feature that increases vehicle efficiency by recovering and converting kinetic energy into electrical energy, charging the battery, increasing driving range, and reducing wear and tear on traditional brakes.

A Low-Speed Vehicle is a street-legal, four-wheeled electric vehicle with a top speed of 25mph, and a gross vehicle weight rating of less than 3000 lbs. Most States allow LSVs to be driven on roads marked 35mph or less.

A. The MAX-EV has an optional tow hitch support bracket that may be installed at any time and allow the vehicle to tow up to 1500lbs.

A. Yes the MAX-EV has an optional dump bed add-on.  An electrohydraulic piston and fortified steel frame allows the deck to tilt up to 50 degrees and easily lift 500lbs of debris, brush, or soil.

A. The MAX-EV is built as an on-road LSV, in nearly all State, and several Province, the vehicle can be driven on roads marked 35mph or less, in Canada 50kph or less. 

The vehicle is build quite robust and can handle light off road duty.  Optional turf tires and winter tires are avaiable. 

A. Westward offers 4 different Lithium-Ion battery pack options for the MAX-EV line. 

A 6KW with up to 32 miles of range. 

An 8KW with up to 45 miles of range. 

A 15 KW with up to 80 miles of range. 

A 20 KW with up to 120 miles of range. 

Please note that range is an estimate and excludes accessory draw such as heat, AC, heavy payload, severe inclines.  Battery pack sizes are rounded up or down for marketing purposes. We do recommend charging indoors in subfreezing weather.

A. The short answer is yes.  It should however be a dedicated circuit to avoid tripping the wall panel breaker.  On larger battery packs such as our 20kw, we do recommend using 220v charging to allow the vehicle time to balance the batteries after charge.  Do note that we sell the J1772 charging cable separately, and one is needed per vehicle. 

A. Westward builds vehicles in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  Parts are fully available and ship daily to our dealer network, or drop ship for urgent orders.

Max-EV³ – FAQs

An ideal 3 wheel electric vehicle for urban delivery, mail parcel, courier delivery, food delivery, and more. In a day and age when nearly any article can be ordered online for delivery, the MAX-EV 3 allows for quick access in congested areas.

A: The MAX-EV 3 is designed for fleets needing a compact, efficient vehicle for getting around busy congested traffic.  

It is ideal as a last-mile delivery vehicle, cargo vehicle, or parking enforcement vehicle. 

A: The MAX-EV 3 is currently offered with our 15KW or up to 80 mile pack.  Range is an estimate and excludes additional accessory draw.

A: The MAX-EV 3 is currenly only available for the US market where it is registered as either a Motorcycle or Autocycle.  Federally it is recognized as a motorcycle. At the State level each State may have different legislation on Autocycle requirements.

GO-4 – FAQs

The GO-4 is specifically designed for the needs of parking management and enforcement. With center operator seating and easy curb access from both sides, safely navigate congested areas. Built with a super tough 2.5-inch steel roll bar chassis, available in EV or fuel. Increase your operator’s efficiency with the right tool.

A: Yes Westward still has the ability to offer a 1.0L Kia gas drivetrain with automatic transmission. 

Electric versions are Lithium-Ion,  15 or 20KW battery packs with up to 100 miles of range before accessory draw.

A: The GO-4 offers some unparalleled benefits due to its compact yet robust build. The GO-4 boasts a 9 foot turning radius, half that of a standard sedan, and one third the radius of a larger truck. 

The GO-4 is center operator with dual sliding doors, which allows the operator to always access the safe side of traffic. 

The GO-4 can easily park next to vehicles where as a larger vehicle will have to move ahead and find available parking.  

This style of build allows the operator to move around traffic much quicker and increase efficiency. 

Although the GO-4 is small in size, it has a full 2.5 inch steel roll bar chassis surrounding the operator.  Rollbars are very crush resistant.

A: Yes, Westward works closely with leading ALPR companies such as Genetec Autovu and Vigilant Solutions. We integrate hardware directly at the factory at the time of build, leaving a seamless integration.  The vehicle arrives ready for operator training.

A: Since the GO-4 has been in production since the 1990s, it has adopted or been given many different nicknames. Regardless of the name you use, Westward has an expansive dealer network, simply submit a request under find a dealer.  Also note the gas engines built over the last decade are all KIA, and can be serviced by qualified KIA technicians.
